I was curious if any of you expats out there where familar with any Tae Kwon Do or Hapkido gyms in Korea that teach expats. I'm interested in any gym that is in the Seoul area. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Scrap the Tae Kwon Do and go with Hapkido if you actually want to learn something useful when it comes to self defense. Not that Tae Kwon Do doesn't have it's place. It's just that it's place happens to be in more entertainment and fitness based.

Yeah, I know I'll get hell for this one.

There are good TKD schools out there but one would have to look quite hard to find them. I agree that Hapkido would be the way to go for anyone looking for solid self defense training. I have been practicing Hapkido for a few months now. I am a lifelong martial artist and have studied many styles Muay Thai, Shaolin kung fu, Judo, TKD, Takgeyon, Boxing. My evaluation of HKD is that its strong points are the joint locking techniques. I think the strikes especially the hand stikes are weak, however that's coming from the perspective of Thai boxing where every strike is meant to maim and cripple (real life encounter). I am learning HKD mostly for the joint locking which I really never had much training in.
