Hi,
Im in Japan and I would like to go to Korea for a summer camp job, but I`m not sure there is time to sort out the visa.
Does anyone know how long it takes for a C4 visa? seems like something you should be able to get on the internet I know but I can`t find it and I can never get through when I call!
Thanks,

are you sure you want to come do a camp on a C4 Visa? You know you'll be paying something like 25-27% tax, right?
There was a big now infamous winter camp scandal in 2005-2006 with i-HUFS where they brought like 40 teachers all on C4 Visas and then took that much tax from them but failed to tell them that would be the amount deducted from their salaries. The difference was like getting 2 mill and getting 1.5-1.6 mill or something like that.
Just wanted to give you a heads up about Korea's C4 Visa tax rate. You can call up the NTS and ask them yourself.
Anyway, I believe you'd just get the visa from the Osaka embassy (same day service if you arrive first thing in the morning) or any other Korean embassy in Japan (next day service)
But for a tax rate that high, you may want to give it a second thought. |

I worked a camp recently with a C-4 visa and I didn't get taxed at that rate. I never heard of that.
I did have to go to a Korean embassy in Japan and give them original degree diploma and copy of CRCs and a bunch of other stuff (a lot of stuff from the camp, like timetables and business registration). You definitely can't get one on the internet. Call your nearest Korean embassy and ask for very specific instructions about what paperwork they need. |

I worked at a camp on a C-4 and was fine--wasn't taxed anything bad at all. |

camps are notorious for not reporting income to the authorities
some will take "taxes" but not pay it - it's just skimming your income is all
most teachers don't know enough to ask - BUT the thing to do is to have it IN YOUR CONTRACT EXACTLY HOW MUCH YOU WILL BE PAID AND HOW MUCH WILL BE DEDUCTED FOR TAXES IF ANYTHING AT ALL.
a lot of camps just pay cash, no deductions.
good luck.
oh and btw, c4s can be processed in 1 day. |

I think they used to be processed in the same day, but now they are done overnight. It's not really a problem if you're in Japan anyway but definitely talk to the Korean embassy about what their current requirements are. |
