I don't know if I am allowed to ask this here, but did any of you go with recruiters who did not try to screw you over? Well, I am not saying it is ENTIRELY the recruiters fault but so far I have had:

1) Several recruiters say they work with "reliable schools" and then find out later this is the first time the school has ever used this recruiter.

2) Send me contracts that they tried to pressure me to sign even though any other experienced teacher on here would give advice not to (Thanks to those for opening my eyes).

3) Told me not to look at other jobs while they were "helping me" as it would waste both of our time or go with other recruiters.

Sigh. Is this normal? I have been in the review stages of applications and contracts now for 2 months and haven't found anything. Maybe it is harder as I was looking for a couples position for Seoul, should I be less picky about area in order to find a good hagwon?

I would go with a wide range of different recruiters and not tell them that they are not the only person you are using ... assuming that you are looking for a hagwon position in Seoul. (I think SMOE has said that you must only apply to them through one recruiter) ...

They will give you jobs to think about and then you can eventually accept the one that you both want. The last time I looked for a job (actually both times I have looked for a job) I used the different recruiters who advertised on Dave's and sent an email including my specific requirements (in the email) and attaching my resume (including the required photo).

Unless you specifically need to be in Seoul, it might also be useful to widen your area options ... at this stage of the process and see what areas job offers come from ... then you can look at the specific area and decide if you want to live and work there. You might find somewhere that you like but hadn't thought about. You will do the same thing anyway when you get job offers from within Seoul.
