Can anyone recommend free anti-virus software available for download. I was using Mcafee but my subscription ran out a couple of months ago. I think my PC may have a virus and was hoping the free software would not only block viruses but also remove any exising ones.
Cheers in advance for any info. |

I use Avast on my office computer and it works great. It updates every morning (auditory message so keep the volume down or headphones plugged in). Works great.

Go to the BBC's website and search for their tech show which is called "Click." They have tested some free anti virus software and had some links to sites. |

Avira.
In a test of the big 3 free versions (Avast, AVG and Avira), it was tied with Avast for virus catching, but had substantially less false positives.
Just don't go with AVG. |

I was reading up on this a few days ago and wasn't impressed with the negativity out there about Avira - for now I'm sticking with AVG
Can't remember the links right now. |

Avast always goes off with autorun programs like on memory sticks. Easily taken care of though. Other than that, I've only had 1 false positive from Avast. For free, it's quite nice. On my home PC I use Bit Defender Total Security. It's awesome. |

I used to use AVG, but I got rid of the new version (8.0?) as it really slowed my computer down. I now use Avira which seems fine. Lighter anyway. |
