Are Koreans afraid of escalators?
It seems that way sometimes. Regularily, I have noticed that when some Koreans, usually grandmothers get to the foot of the escalator, they pause, watching their feet carefully, and then get on as to not let their foot touch the seam between the moving and not moving parts.
Just 5 minutes ago, some Korean man with a huge ass mountain climbing backpack and all of the trimmings did the same thing. Then he started backing up and got annoyed when he got hit with my bag. He was trying to keep his feet as far away from the inside step as possible.
I have also seen this with teenagers, but not nearly as often. |

They've heard horrific stories of escalators eating your feet..
It's the height thing, and the loss of balance thing, and the 'ground that moves' thing all mixed together..
I'm personally a fan of escalators, great for lazy arses like me..
Used to love running up the escalators that were heading down at airports when I was little.. |
