I picked this up at HK International on my way back to Korea and it was a surprisingly good, interesting and at times quite humorous read. It really shows how G'nR could have been even a much bigger band than they were if it weren't for Axl's attitude and the fact that at almost any given point several of them were junkies, often Slash himself. |

i read both slash and kiedis' biographies. i've worked with and counselled junkies in the past, and the 2 books gave me remarkable insight into the way the mind works when you're that messed up. fascinating.
i've heard criticisms that much of slash's book smooths over a few incidents, i.e. when his friend OD'd and died, but it was a very entertaining read. |

Slash was on Letterman a while ago and he sounds like a nice, mellow guy now. He's definitely done a lot of living. on the other hand, Axl seeems like a loose cannon but Slash said that he hopes he can make peace with him though he isn't holding his breath.
hey, slash almost died. drank too much and his body was shutting down. the doctors told him he had like 6 months to live or something so he stopped drinking and started exercising. his body recovered and he's alive. he said he'd seen a friend die of the same thing, so he was pretty scared.
the interview is on Youtube. |

Yeah, he writes of one guy OD-ing and dying at his home and another at his hotel room, and claims that neither time he helped supply the drugs or was participating in it at the time. That's entirely possible, but a track record that has to be a bit suspect.
Interesting that they just kicked Scott out of Velvet Revolver. At the time of writing Slash wrote of him like he was a seriously messed up junkie but the lead singer he'd always been looking for. Matt Sorum went on record saying that after Scott he thought Axl didn't seem so bad. |

Rock Star bios all ultimately derive from Jim Morrison's, as read by Dennis Leary:
" I'm drunk, I'm nobody; I'm drunk, I'm famous...... I'm drunk, I'm dead."
I guess Slash is just waiting for the right timing to release the last chapter. |
