I've been here for a long time and usually read the Times (Korea Times, of course. Is there any other kind?), Herald, Chosun Ilbo, and Dong-A Ilbo online and in hard copy. In English, 99.99% of the time. I realize that only reading in English about Korea gives me a skewed perspective on Korea, but that's life. I know that the Hankyoreh has a reputation for leftist views and has a relatively small circulation, but I think their English website is pretty good (better than Dong-A) especially considering that it is only a year old or so (I could be wrong.) I just started reading the above website and was pretty shocked to read about the "righteousness of the candles" and how people "should react with violence when the government tramples on them."

Sample headlines include: "Signs of the conservative medias fall," and "President, not protesters, threatening identity of the state."

Are those Bolsheviks outside? Because, they sure look like name-brand wearing, materialists to me.

How well do you think that the Hankyoreh newspaper reflects the average sentiment of my university students, the woman at the store, the corporate workers I teach, and Ma and Pa back on the farm?

I think you can draw some conclusions from this: http://english.chosun.com/w21data/html/news/200806/200806300016.html

Here they tacitly endorse the use of physical violence against to change the policies of a democratically elected government.

Quote:
This is, of course, not to say that physical power should not be used under any circumstances. The people are the sovereign authority of the country, so if the government continually rejects their rightful demands and, furthermore, tramples on them with violence, no citizen is going to stand back and take it. The same goes for when media companies that have a financial monopoly on the public opinion market continue to lie and distort, and thereby paint legitimate expressions and actions as illegal violence. It is in this sense that it would be right to see violence on the part of some protesters as a sign their anger is reaching its limits.

I would say they largely reflect the views of the kind of pro-DPRK thugs who make up the KTA, Hanchongryeon and the DLP.

I think that most of the "commies" here are just angry that they cant afford the kangnam apartment, big black Equus, and the lifestyle of the rich people in Seoul and Bundang. If they were handed these things they would change their tunes right quick.
