Hi there, I am currently working for a franchise hogwon and in my contract it states that for three months I will have 200,000 won deducted from my pay which is to be refunded to me at the end of my contract minus any unpaid utility bills. The wierd thing is that every month she hands me my bills and I pay for them. She never gives me any reciept, but I've been keeping track. I will ask for copies of the bills from here one. Along with that deductions is the tax amount of 72,600 on my 2.2 mil won monthly pay. I have never recieved a pay stub everything is sent to my bank account. I don't have insurance, the director never signed me up for it, so there are no other costs that I am aware of besides tax. Again, there are no stubs to know what exactly that tax includes.
I am planning on leaving my school before my contract ends, without notification.
So, there are a few questions here:

1. Is the tax amount of 72,600 appropriate considering my monthly pay?
2. Since I will be leaving soon, and the director obviously has my bank account information so she can post the total of 600,000 won when the year is up, if she doesn't, how can I fight this from the states?
3. How can I get information on getting a pay check stub?

Thanks for your help!

So you plan on breaking your contract early without notice (running), and you want to know how to get your fight if you don't get your deposit back? Sorry buddy, you'll have no recourse and you won't get it back. Consider it the price to pay for not working there anymore.

Tosser.

Your boss is screwing you on the taxes. You should only be paying 39930.
http://www.nts.go.kr/eng/help/help_52.asp?top_code=H001&sub_code=HS05&ssub_code=HSE2

If you pull a runner you will lose the deposit on the basis of any number of "outstanding bills" that the hakwon could claim and would be difficult for you to refute.

If you give notice you will get screwed on your pay and deposit but will at least have the labor board as a last result to try to recover some of your money.

Best bet = cut your losses when it is most convenient for you.

wow - are you in Jeonju by any chance?

my first hakwon; the director was taking out plus or minus 70,000 a month for taxes; she wrote it down on the envelope every month (which I kept)

I didn't want to renew, which upset her. towards the end of my contract I said I needed a tax certificate so I could take care of any taxes, refunds, etc. she hemmed and hawed about giving me one and I insisted.

turns out she wasn't paying the tax man - and it gets better - she was taking nearly 3 times as much as she should have been -

she wound up giving me the tax certificate, paying a year's pension, and refunding me around 349000 won but she still owed me more - she charged me for the accountant to prepare the tax certificate. I let it go at that tho, it really pissed me off.

you gotta watch'm every second... Twisted Evil

It could be a lot worse.

As for the 200,000 won they say they will take out, are they actually taking it out?
