How do you get a criminal background check done for visa procedures in Korea?

I am a US citizen and I currently live outside the US

Any help is appreciated

I think you can get one from your local police office.

Go to the FBI website
Download the fingerprint sheet
Print it out 2 or 3 times.
Take the fingerprint sheet to the police station where ever you are.
Have someone take your finger prints.
Mail the prints, along with a letter of request (you can also download it) and the fee (I think it's $1Cool
Mail this off to the FBI. Use a return address in the USA (family who will send it to you)
Have your family mail it back to you where ever you are.

Go to the Embassy...
Write an affidavit (at the embassy) saying that the results of your criminal records check is true and accurate to the best of your knowledge.
Get the seal or stamp at the Embassy for your affidavit (They will not certify your FBI check, because they don't know if it's true or not)

Staple the two papers together.

Well, I am currently going through the process myself. It is a time consuming pain to be honest. The FBI check takes a substantial amount of time and it is not needed. As I am not in the US myself, the local check in my county in Maryland didn't work out for me. Instead, I opted for the state check. This meant that I needed to have my fingerprints taken in Thailand. Then, I sent them back to my family (no checkbook here). They forwarded them to the state police who will send it back to my family. After this, it needs to be sent for certification. Finally, it will return to me in Thailand though I may have it forwarded directly to my employer since I have just lined up a job.
