I think. Uni wants me to get an LOR from my current school, even though I finish my current contract August 1st, and don't start the Uni til September 1. I'm leaving the country for most of August.

He's insisting I still need the LOR so that I don't have to make a Visa run to Japan.

Does that make sense to anyone?

If there's a one-month gap between the end of your current contract and the beginning of your new contract, you can't avoid the visa run.

An extension of stay and change of employment can only be processed if your dates of employment are continuous, i.e., the new contract starts immediately upon the end of the old. If this is not the case, then you'll be required to obtain a new visa, which must be done at a Korean embassy/consulate outside of Korea.

Now, if the university is planning to make your contract start in August, then this would work. In that case, you would need a letter of release from the old job so that Immi can process the application.
