|
|
I like using riddles as a form of warm-up in my classes, but many of the riddles easily available on the net have a little difficulty crossing cultures.
As a result, I'm curious to see if anyone has any riddles they've found to be virtually universal. While English versions of Korean riddles would be best, any old favourites are also completely welcome.
Let's have a bit of fun.
I'll start off with my favourite:
There's is a man staring at a portrait. The man says
"Brothers and sisters I have none, but this mans father is my father's son."
Who's is the portrait of? |

Wow, it's his son. Is it really that hard? And you said Korean logic was bad? That was downright embarrassing... |

In case we were supposed to add another one I'll go this one. Most have probably heard it, but it's a fun one if you haven't.
Alive without breath,
As cold as death;
Never thirsty, ever drinking,
All in mail never clinking. |

The builder doesn't need me,
the buyer doesn't use me,
the user doesn't want me.
Also a little on the common side. Don't want to make em TOO hard though. |

Oooohh, I remember that one! The answer rhymes with "soften", right?
Ok, I am remembering this from die hard three, and I will try to word it properly, but I make no promises.
You have two jugs, a three litre jug and a five litre jug. You have an unlimited supply of water and you are able to pour any amount of water in and out of these jugs as you want. However, your only tools of measurment are the three litre and five litre jugs. You need to get four litres of water into one of those jugs and put them on a scale that is rigged to a bomb or shablooee and you die (there's a time limit, I forget how long, maybe three minuits?). There are no tricks in how I have written this, I reiterate, there are no tools of measurment except the three litre and five litre jugs. Sorry for any spelling errors, enjoy! |

Yes, you got the user buyer one right.
As for yours:
If there's another container that you're pouring into then it's easy. You fill the 5L, fill the 3L from 5L leaving you with 2L. Put that on the bomb or whatever and repeat. 2 + 2 = 4.
If not then it's harder. You have to fill the 3L with the 5, leaving 2 left again. Then put the 2 in the in 3L leaving a 1L empty space at the top. Fill the 5L and then top off the 3L from it. Boom, 4L. |

Time also kinda works, but footsteps is the traditional answer.
P.S.
Supposed to post a new one if you solve the old one... |
