Sorry to add another question to your thread OP...but thought it was related to the contract.
Has anyone read the 08-09 SMOE contract and wondered about the severance pay? The way it's worded, I'm not sure if you get it for only working a year...

If you work the full year and they don't pay it, then it's illegal. It's not a SMOE policy it's a government policy. I'm sure it's worded funky or something.
Now there has been some contention over whether or not you get paid your severance per year, or only after leaving SMOE. |

Thanks for the reply, but the contract for smoe is officially August 25, 2008- August 24, 2009. Would the law still apply? |

Yeah it's a full calendar year. I wouldn't worry about it there would be such a huge outcry if somehow they did manage to finagle ya outta your severance. I think they have hundreds of teachers and such.
I worked with em last year and didn't have any problems getting mine. |

One great thing about SMOE is that they stick to the law and the contract. They are a government entity, not a lowly hogwan owner. Individual schools may try to break the contract from time to time, but a quick review of the contract or call from the SMOE office always clears things up.
You will get your severance for each year you work for SMOE.
OP, I don't know the tax rates. |
