I'm in Busan. It is not as smelly as Seoul.
Ask a question and i'll try to answer. |

I don't think so. i went to Changnyeong in Gyeongsangnamdo(about 75 000) and it stunk. Apparently ha something to do with the trees. Couldn't get out of their quick enough .
BTW...I think everywhere in Korea has some smell factor. Just depends on your proximity to the smell |

Good things about Busan: Smaller than Seoul. Cheaper than Seoul. Less rushed lifestyle. Warmer weather. Cleaner air (not streets, air). Beaches and surf in the summer. Farther from NK.
Bad things about Busan: People less refined than in Seoul (really). Four seasons: Winter, Spring, Rain, Fall. Beaches completely jammed on nice days. Poor bus service. 24 hour traffic jam. Exciting restaurant choices of noodles, rice, rice and noodles or noodles and rice.
I don't mind Busan but I'm ready to try something else. Whatever you choose, it's not a big country and you can always go to other cities on the weekend.

I'll agree that Busan is not as cosmopolitan as Seoul - for sure. Rice, noodles, rice, galbi, rice as well.
I missed the summer but was really looking forward to the fact that beach in Busan is all the hype to enjoy come spring and summer - but after checking them out (it was the fall - disclaimer here) - I was a little let down. From the pictures I've seen it is retarded packed when the beach season opens - and based upon the noise around these parts - I cannot imagine a relaxing weekend at the beach. I'm sure megaphone man will follow the crowd to the beach come spring to hawk his fruit and wares.
If your into surf/surfing I also do not beleive that the beaches see much in the way of waves unless its storm season. But like I said, i have only been here in the fall.
The plus side is - that you still can go to a beach. I had a guy visiting (Aussie) who had been landlocked for 8 months up north and was so excited to see the water down here. So if you need to be close to the ocean Busan may be good for you. |

I disagree with this a little. maybe you are in a bad neighbourhood but out at Haeundae there is a fantastic Indian restaurant. i was so surprised how good it was. plus Soemyeon and Nampodong have good Vietnamese and Thai restaurants plus the good old TGI Fridays and Outback plus Bennigans. Moldy, you need to get out more |

There is also the United Seamans Service club doing good ol American tucker (you have to pay in USD too), VIPS in Seomyeon (though the quality of the buffee has decreased lately IMO), Mexican in Haeundae and at PNU, a plethora of the Daks (bbq chicken resturants) as well as nice buffee's at Sponz (or for those with a bigger budget) the Marriot in haeundae.

Sheesh... guys.. now that I'm leaving Busan I discover that these places exist. I thought all there was is Outback/Bennigan's. In Nampodong there's a decent Indian place but I've never seen anything else besides the overpriced Vietnamese restaurant & Ganga in Haeundae. Where are these places-- Mexican restaurants in Busan other than the bad one at PNU?

Busan natives are generally more aggressive and brash. I heard and saw a lot more fighting there than here. |
