A friend worked for one of the Reading Town places in Busan. They refused to return any of the foreign teachers' diplomas and told them straight up, "We're holding the diplomas so you don't pull runners." If the place does that, they obviously know how bad they are.

That statement is surprisingly honest. The OP should: not give them his/her original sheepskin; and make 'get away' plans before signing the contract. Wink

Well, I'm not the smartest guy in the world but I would never hand over my documents like that.

On a nother note, is it me...........or have the offers started to go down hill? With this position (Suji), it was 2.1 million won a month, with a whole 7 days vacation..............

????

WTF is going on over there?

Yeah, I was suprised by the admission, too. What should happen is that when ONE hagweon abuses its foreign staff, the entire chain should be relegated to the dustbin of potential workplaces. Then, and only then, will the franchise headquarters, who really don't do anything much more than hawk the name to local buyers, will start requiring local buyers to sign contracts agreeing to management, financial, and legal issue inspections. The people who own the name must feel it in the purse or there will never be any change at the hagweon level!
