Hi everyone. How goes it? I just have some questions about Ewha and I was hoping some of you can answer them, or know someone who can. I'm looking into studying Korean at Ewha over the summer and I've been scouring the internet but I can't seem to find any testimonials or personal stories about any experiences there.

So, have any of you guys studied there (not just over the summer, any semester)? Do you know anyone who has? If so, how were the dorms and meals? Were the classes of good quality or a waste of time?

Thanks a bunch! Smile

Only from word of mouth, I've heard it's a very good class format and teaches you Korean effectively. However, I've also heard that guys who learn Korean there end up speaking like women.

Here's an interesting fact about the University:

In 2004 after extensive research scientists came to the conclusion that it is actually the hottest place in the world. Due to the extreme hotness two scientists actually exploded and died whilst asking sophomore girls about lesbian kiss experiences. It was a tragedy.

Oh I heard the Korean classes are good but I haven't taken them myself. The language center is also probably less hot than the rest of the campus.

I found out that my college doesn't count Korean as a language, so no Korean classes from any university would ever transfer as part of the required second language credit. I was told that few months in Japan would count as six credits and a summer in Middle East as 12 (but since I'm a girl I'm not allowed to go into the Arabic program).

I did a semester at Ewha last year.
Didn't take the language program though. I took classes in English with Korean students and other international students. The Korean girls all spoke fluent or near-fluent English, many with no accent at all. The teachers were good for the most part, but the classes were much easier than back home.

The international dorm is awesome, totally new and clean and modern. Single rooms have private bathrooms. All rooms have nice balconies. There is no curfew for the international students' dorm, unlike the Korean students' dorm (or so I heard). The only problem with the dorm when I was there was the noise and foolishness caused by the male international students there, who drank 6 nights a week and made bets about which one of them would be able to bang one of the Japanese girls first.

Meals in the cafeteria are good and really cheap. The kimbap in the international offices building is really good.

Feel free to PM me with any specific questions. I'd be happy to help you out.

You'll likely run into this problem no matter where you study Korean as most teachers are female.

Thanks for your help guys. Based on what I have been able to find on the internet it seems like a pretty good place to study. I've been seeing mixed reviews about Seoul National and Yonsei.

danby_ll, I tried to PM you but the silly rule about having 25 posts before you're allowed to currently applies to me. Meh.

Costs? Requirements? Were you there on a scholarship? Pics of the rooms?

I studied Korean for a semester at Edae. It was great. I learned a lot. I'd definitely go back. I've heard Sogang's program is better, but I can't speak from experience.

Yep, get that a lot. But it's cute to sound like a chick, apparently, so don't fret Laughing

I've learned most of my Korean from women and I never get accused of sounding like one. Maybe it's because I learned the absolute basics with a guy and then advanced with women? Heh heh, advanced... Sorry.
