So, I have a week off at theend of July, and will most likely be spending it in Korea. Which island would you recommend?
Off course, Jeju is always an option, but still the flight from Seoul is a little bit more than I would like to spend and I would like something smaller.
Sapsido? Has anyone ever been? Quite small, but I love the fact that you can walk from one end to the other in 40 mintues.
Any other recommendations?
If so, could you specify info on ferries, bus, etc.
Thanks! |

I like Geoje-Do (or Koje-Do) Island......some great scenery and nice beaches (Hakdong pebble beach,Kujora is ok) and a ferry ride from Busan/can drive there too now since the bridge was built. Oedo island there is also nice.
Ideal for biking around too. Been a good few years since i last went though |

a week is a long time even for jeju, in two busy days you could probably see most things in jeju....
if you go to a smaller island...you can likely see everything in one day |

I want to bump this because I have the same question.
Jeju seems like it will be too packed the end of July. I plan on staying in Korea but would like to get away to somewhere coastal. I'd love ideas on which island might have a chance of less crowds, be relaxing (no bars, clubs necessary), and have a possible good chance for cycling. (All of this with a toddler in tow, but we're pretty hard-core travelers.)
We've already done Dolsando off of Yeosu in Jellanam-do (in winter, so I don't know about beaches there). That was great--very rural, and the walk up to Hyang-Iram monastery was well worth it. Awesome views of the ocean/other islands. Didn't see a single other foreigner--just 5 or 6 Korean tourists. Not bad, but that was February.
I know some of you have some great info on traveling around Korea, so lets hear it! |

Personally, I prefer the Islands off of the Maine cost. But, I summered there all my school age years. And quite a few after. |

What about Ulleungdo Island off the mid-east coast? I've not been there but I know you get a ferry from Pohang & I'm planning to head there in August when mum visits. Anyone been there that can recommend it? |

Go to Mokpo. From there you can go to Hongdo, Haksando and Cheju-do |

That's close to Incheon, right? |
