I bought an 80GB classic for like $265 in the states a couple months ago, but noticed that a tiny 8GB touch goes for $309. I know it's more advanced in that you can touch the screen with a little finesse, but why pay so much for a device with a small amount of memory?
I don't want an IPOD touch until it has 80GB like my classic. Why is Apple skimping on it as the technology is available for the anything to have 80 to 160GB? This seems so silly.
Can someone better explain why? |

for one, you can turn the touch into a wifi phone and make calls to anywhere in the world as long as you have a wifi signal. the same people who mod'd the mic to make the phone are working on a gps unit to sync with google maps so you can get real time gps data..and thats only one group of mods designing programs. apple just opened up the source and are allowing people to custom build programs to sell on itunes. the possibilities are endless
the classic is a great multimedia device, but thats all it is. the touch is a much more dynamic system.
personally, i don't need 80gigs of music at hand all the time. with my 4gig old school mini, i can choose a broad range of my music and, while i might not have exactly the song i want at a certain time, i'll have something to listen to. same with the touch, except now you can access itunes and buy songs while you're on the subway... |

I agree with pirateb.
The itouch is so much more than a media player. You can do some crazy stuff if you hack it...like playing nintendo games, etc.
And by the time you finished listening to 5 gigs of music you would have to re-plug back into your computer where you can easily switch music anyways. ( I typically just listen to the same 6 albums over and over)
And reading articles on the internet is sometimes more fun than listening to music anyways...but you can to both at the same time with itouch...
But if you dont care about internet than go with the classic. |

Cos the technology used to make your Classic is very different, which means price change.
Classic use HDD as storage media, old stuff and cheap as chips these days, where as the touch/iphone use flash memory, which sure is getting bigger in storage size. But price is still not that cheap to start throwing out 80GB units.
Also u need to think of it from a business point of view - release small sized minimum version now and people buy em then work up to larger generations and get people to buy em again. If they bought out the best thing now....how long til youd buy a new one...a long time - which means $0. |

I want to say that the Touch has a lot bigger screen than the Classic. I don't want to squint to watch my video. |
