$650 for a graphics card??!!!
Knock yourself out, CL.
Nvidia have priced these GTX200 cards way too high. The ATI HD4870 and HD4870X2 is going to come in and clean up.
Seriously, these GTX200 cards offer horrible FPS-per-dollar. |

4000 series has been released in the states. The 50 performs on par with a 9800gtx, but Nvidia has dropped the price on it so both are $200.
Perhaps more interestingly I haven't seen any real reviews of the 4870 yet, but you should be able to buy two for the price of a 280, and dual 4870s will almost certainly outperform the 280. Tests should be out in the next week or so I'd think.
Oh, and one more thing. There have been rumors of significant price drops for the 280. |

The 4850 is available in Korea for about 225,000 or so, or $199 in the US. They weren't supposed to be released until today, but some online vendors started selling them early so AMD released the NDA on the reviews. The 4870 isn't coming out until early next month, so no reviews on it yet.
The thing I like is that 2 4850s in CF get really close to a 280 in a few games and actually out-perform it in some.
I'm definitely looking at the 4870 for my next card when I build my machine next month.

this is a very powerful card indeed but the price is mind boggling high and i cant afford it so if you wait a little longer order the hd 4870 which is similar in performance wise is a lot cheaper i mean DEAD CHEAPER. price performance ''HD 3870'' |

Well preliminary indications were that the 4870 isn't really that close to the 280 performance wise. But wait a couple weeks and we could see prices at or below 4870 for $300 and 280 for $500. |

I'm hoping Nvidia and ATI will tear each other to bits in the next couple of months.
If they do, and the Korean e-tailers don't gouge us too much, like they usually do, then I'm hoping to buy an HD4870 for 290,000 in September. |

What games out there actually need this firepower? I can't see how such an expensive purchase can be justified. |

Well for people actually buying at the $650 tag it's more or less just
a) people who are loaded and want the best system possible or
b) really hardcore gamers/other performance enthusiasts
However, crysis still needs a card like this if you want to run everything maxed at insane resolutions. And it's theorized it may drop as low as $400 in the next little spell. That would put it much more in reach for people building new gaming systems. |

Ya I am definately not Rich... But I'd totally buy something like that... Mind you, by the time I actually got the money up to buy the thing, it'd be lower in price anyways.
NTM, u never really wanna buy a product as soon as it comes out... So I don't mind waiting a little bit. And I'm sure there'll be some competition of similar grade coming soon as well. |

"SLI Ready" is almost the first thing you see.
Rich...just rich.
Enjoy CL. You will have other priorities one day, so until then, enjoy.
I do expect some insanely high-res screenies though. I will even enjoy side-scrolling for that. |
