In light of the recent mess... when the mods, or Dave, or whoever, get around to rewriting some of the code for this message board, one suggestion:

Fix the bloody search function!

Specifically, make an option to search for topic title ONLY.

This is such a high traffic board, but the search function has always been moot. Unless that was the plan all along - make searching next to impossible as a means to keep traffic flowing.

Dave, you talk about using the internet as a tool in your interviews, yet this place is falling apart... a revamp is long overdue.

Fix the bloody search function!

I'll second that - it's pretty crucial for a forum to work well.

Perhaps if the SEARCH FUNCTION WAS FIXED we could find a way forward...

The mods have been made aware of this through posts in this forum, pm's, and it will continue to fall on deaf ears.

People have griped about the search function for a long time. Sometimes it works fine, sometimes it is like a drunk on their second bottle of cheap wine (that is passed out and worthless and no this isn't from experience).

I also saw someone suggest adding a spell check function.

GK is right, most of these things will never happen.

The bloody search function hasn't worked since 2003, I doubt he's going to try and fix it anytime soon.

I remember when I modded on this board 2003-04, we would send dave a request or an Email about something and he'd write back a one line response, always ending with "cheers" - ha.

I think FIXING THE SEARCH FUNCTION would be a splendid idea.

Dave doesn't care/notice what's going on on this board. It's understandable. One day the whole thing could get deleted because he needs room on his harddrive for Lost Season 5.

You talk about Dave as if he's God. What would you do if he PM'd you?

Really, would the experience uplift you?

Or send you to a lower forum?

Are there any posters who've 'talked to Dave'?

Good idea, Captain. I got a mold spot in my bathroom that looks like Dave. I'm going to set up a pay-per-view shrine.

I have offered several times to fix it for free and the mods did not even answer my message.

Really, I don't understand why they haven't fixed this problem yet. Other problems I can understand, like the porno pics and avatars but there's really no excuse for this one.

The search engine is a function of the software, and as I've said a ton of times already, upgrading that would be a massive job. In the mean time, there was a work around through google that someone posted a while back- anyone remember?

I had lunch with him once. The wine was delicious, as was the bread, and we never seemed to run out ... kinda wierd, now that I think about it.
