I do not have an aircon and will be away on holiday for 2 weeks. Can you suggest to me how many of these to place in a room so as to protect my electronics and prevent my clothes from getting mildewed. |

wrap your electronics in towels, then wrap them in a few layers of plastic. You should be okay. Do the same with your clothes. Forget about the aircon. |

A hippo (like you) must stay in the water or in a very humid habitat to prevent dehydration.
Please ensure your apartment is big enough and filled with mud and water.
Adult hippos eats more than 150 pounds of grass a night - so make sure to get enough grass.
Also keep the sun out of the apartment - hippo's get sunburnt quickly. |

What? Hippo?
Why would your clothes get mildewy? |

Isn't the real question how many would fit? I presume we're talking full-grown hippos.
Anyone know the size in pyeong of the average adult hippo? |

It doesn't matter. You could put twenty and it wouldn't do anything. |

I love this thread!
The guy is talking about the dehumidifier boxes, sold as Thirsty Hippos:

OP, I'm told those hippo boxes don't work. If you can find a dehumidifier that plugs in, those work fantastically well. |

+But I will be on holiday for 2 weeks. How can I leave a dehumidifier on. Won't it be full before I get back? |

you're worrying too much. I went home for a month one summer, when I returned nothing was moldy or mildewy, and there was no problem with the electronics. Unplug everything except the fridge, as you won't be using it anyway -that way they're protected in case of a thunderstorm or electrical short while you're gone. |

if you have nothing in the fridge and turn it off make sure you leave the door open. Clothes should be fine, anything which you are worried about hang on a clothes horse |

Open all your cupboard doors before you go so the air can circulate around your clothes etc. |

But I presume you do have air? No need for aircon.
Having your clothes, sheets etc. sitting in a small dark enclosed space leads to uber mustiness, opening all your cupboards allows better air circulation & light to get in there which helps combat that damp, musty effect.
Other than that there's not too much you can do. I come from the tropics & that mustiness that you get from high humidity is just a part of life.
As peppermint said, unplug all your electronic stuff in case there's a storm, otherwise there's no reason they should be effected by the humidity. |
