|

| I am looking to work for the public school system in Korea, but I am wondering if it is ok to apply with two companies. This should hopefully give me a better selection to choose from. Is this allowed or does the public school system has something against this or does the companies? Thanks |

Applying for public school positions through the programs through more than one recruiter is probably not a good idea. I know that SMOE have specificially said that they will not accept applications from people who apply through more than one recruiter.
But not all of the public school positions are being filled directly through the programs (eg SMOE GEPIK EPIK) and in the case of these jobs applying through more than one recruiter is a good idea. |

I think I understand what you are saying, but what do all these abbr stand for. If I just fill out the applications for the two recruiting companies and have them look for me, I thought the public school system would not know who I am until they get my application or resume and thought I would have to give the companies permission first? The companies are Park English and footprints, should I ask them if it is allowed or would they not process my application because I am asking? |

once a recruiter has your application they will give it to whomever they like. they dont need your permission for each individual possibility. they get paid when they place you. they are going to spread your application out and see who bites. then they'll let you know about the schools as they find out. they know it's a numbers game. the more schools they give your application to, the better chances they have of getting paid.
as for abr. just google them. you'll have the answer in a second.
Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education is the only one i remember off the top of my head |

The location of jobs in the programs are:
SMOE - Seoul
GEPIK - Gyeonggi do
EPIK - Rest of country
Some of the jobs recruiters are trying to fill are with specific schools. In other cases they are filtering applications to the programs. But in any case the recruiter is not the one who is employing you. If you do want a public school job - I would suggest looking at the websites for the 3 programs (a google search will easily bring them up) - then you can see what they say. In some cases it will tell you their approved recruiters. And thus make sure that you don't stop yourself from getting a job in the area you want. I do generally say apply to a range of different recruiters - and see what they come up with for you - BUT I think that SMOE for one does discourage applying for SMOE jobs through more than one recruiter. |

If it is a numbers game, I ask you would it be a bad idea to ask each recruiter their policy about listing myself with other recruiting companies? Would they make no effort to look for a public school position if my application comes across their desk and they notice my name? |

Do you think the recruiter would explain about each district? Which district to you suggest I stay away from concerning the following: low pay, living area( dangerous or hardly any teachers from America or other countries), not working well with American teachers ( poor supervisor) and not following the contract. I have been a substitute teacher for the past six years covering long and short term assignment along with working with ESOL students. |

you cant break it down by district. each school is different. every principal and staff is different. you should basically forget about your six years experience and what you know about the u.s. education system because the korean education system is pretty different. as for your other threads, i dont think people cant really recommend what districts to go after and what to stay away from. since there is no consistency as to how a certain school gets along / cooperates with a foreign teacher, that will be the luck of the draw. the rest is up to you...if you are a city person, get a job in a bigger city, if you enjoy clean air and simple life go for something in the country, or outskirts. it is what you make it, and generally i havent heard to stay away from any districts or that any are better than others. korean teachers are pretty open to the foreign teacher as long as he/she is not an idiot and has minimal social skills.
as for asking a recruiter if it is ok to look with other recruiters...that is a good way to lose job prospects. you are a dollar sign to them (or won sign) so how do you think they will respond if you tell them you are going to use their competition. i used multiple recruiters, but didnt tell them once i figured out that they stop trying if you do that. use a bunch of recruiters, post your resume on the resume board, and make it very clear in the subject line that you have experience and you are only looking for a public school position. no hagwans considered. you will get recruiters calling you with all kinds of offers from all over the country. |
