I am looking to teach in Korea. My experience includes being a substitute teacher in the public school system in Florida for the past six years. I had long term assignments and daily ones. I have worked with some ESOL classes while being a substitute teacher . I am looking to work Monday- Friday 8/9 A.M. to 4/5 P.M. with weekends off. I am also looking for my own apartment. I am not looking to share an apartment. I am looking for a minimal salary of 2.0 Won max 40 hours a week. I was told the public schools would be best. Which company could guide me in this direction and that will look out for my best interests. Park English or Footprints. I know I am asking a lot Thanks so much Smile

A good place to start would be looking at EPIK's website for general info. They have links to other programs in Korea as well.

Is the EPIK Program the public school's hiring program which offers the orientation program that you attend if you get hired by the public school system through a recruiter? Confused

I think another issue is where you want to live. Do you want a city, a big city or countryside. There is SMOE, for Seoul, GEPIK for Gyeonggi (the area around Seoul) or EPIK, for other parts of Korea.
Contact a recruiter and give them an idea of where you would like to live and they can search the area or similar areas.

Companies I would recommend are www.eslgateways.info or Worknplay, not sure if she is still there, but Gloria was good.
If you look through the job section, you will soon see many adverts repeated from larger companies and just reading them can give you some idea at times as to which are good and which are not.
Many companies are good, but sometimes I feel they cannot really help some issues that relate to some placements.
They can help get the area you want, but they cannot really help what the people in the schools you end up are like.

If you are interested in all of your requirements (with the chance of higher pay), 22 classes per week in a middle school then go direct. You can send your stuff (resume, diploma and passport scan) directly to Miyoung at: [email protected] . (standard GEPIK contract). She is the teacher at Gwangjugwangnam middle school. They are about 60 minutes by bus from Seoul, and 30 minutes to Bundang.

The native teacher will teach only the first and the second year students. My school has an English room which has several group tables and more than twenty computers.

We provide the native teacher with one bedroom apartment which is fully furnished. It takes about 15~20 minutes to walk to school from the residence.

Contact Ann or Joyce at www.korvia.com

They can set you up with a public school job. They don't list all of them on their site. They are authorized recruiters for public school jobs in and around Seoul (and other places in Korea too, I believe).

I've known them for years. They're good people.
