I have an ARC which runs out on August 29th. My contract expires August 31st. I will have a new employer from September 1st and want to know if it's possible to extend my Visa to cover the last two days of my contract and change employer two days later?

Edit: Is the expiry date of your ARC inclusive of that date? Ie: If it's the 29th does that mean you have to be out of the country on the 29th or the 30th?

Out on the 29th and ASK the immigration office (and be sure to get his name).

There have been some variances BUT usually the periods of employment must overlap or be continuous for the extension / change of employer to be allowed.

It would also require a LOR from your current employer to start the paperwork for the new position before your current ARC expires.

If Bish decided to transfer say a month before his contract expires, can he simply transfer to another school but with a LOR.

It's a little more complex that a simple transfer, but yes, it can be done.

Hi Ttompatz and thanks for your help.

To put it in short do you think it's possible to get an extension on the ARC to cover the end of my contract (so I get severance pay).

Then get a letter of release confirming I have completed the contract + a second extension for another year with a change of employer starting the day after the 2nd contract?

I will check this with immigration and my employers but if I have an idea now that would be great...

I wish I could give you a definitive answer but the best I can do given the circumstances outlined above is a definite maybe.

Can you extend to complete your current contract = yes.
Can you get a NEW visa (with visa run) = yes
can you extend and change employers = yes, BUT it may take some work to get everyone happy, in agreement and compliance (and you may lose an airfare out of the deal).

You will still require the CRC and medical BEFORE they will allow the transfer or a new visa.

Thanks Ttompatz

That kind of summary is what I was after.
