For the posters who I respect, this is not for you.
For everyone else...
I'd like to kindly recommend that everyone just shut up.
Dave's ESL is a big board for complainers these days. No job is easy and if you came to Korea thinking teaching kids who speak zero English was going to be a walk in the park, well that's just ridiculous.
I just came back from the GEPIK orientation and to be honest I was pretty dissapointed too see at least half the people there just whine all day long.
I really don't care why you came to Korea. Money? Travel? Cultural Experience? Drink? Just stop the jibber jabber and do your job. If you are getting legally screwed then reach someone at GEPIK even if you have to stalk someone to their front door. This ain't America (or Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa) and as a foreigner you are going to have it harder. Don't tell me racism doesn't exist where you live, the last I heard the Ku Klux Klan is still around. I grew up in the states and was played around most of my life by "white" kids. It wasn't until college that people started to mature. The minority usually suffers.
Did I offend you? You offend me with your poor work ethic and lack of understanding for cultural differences.
Don't expect me to write back to your responses, I'm pretty much done here. |

My thoughts exactly. I love getting lectures about how to handle life in Korea from people who have been here for 3 months. |

| While I do agree with you that many posters on here do come across like a bunch of complainers. I have to agree with the above posters who say that you will be back in six months, or less, complaining about your own job. Personally, I think you have just showed yourself to be a complete moron, good job! |

I met a guy who has been here for 5 months. He had nothing positive to say about Korea. I dont have a problem with this, even if he stays all the way to the end of his contract.
I know another guy who has been here for 5 years, and nearly everything he says about Korea is negative. If asked he says he likes it here, but that is at odds with most other things he says. Maybe he just walks around with a little cloud over his head, no matter where he is.
I think he should just go home, or STFU.
Maybe Dave's should be renamed www.culture-shock.com.

I was impressed that most of the "whining" was about how they could do their jobs properly despite the Korean system seemly being set up to make this impossible. The GEPIKers seemed to be conscientious, mission-oriented folks who were determined to earn their pay whether their employers or students liked it or not. Good for them. |
