I'm being asked to pay for my return airfare for my summer holidays and my airfare back to Korea for after. The schools says they will reimburse me when I arrive back from holidays.
Is this standard ? I don't have the contract on me. How could I be sure and protect myself should the school just decided not to when I arrive back in Korea ? |

With Gepik it is. The contract states that the school must reimburse you with 2 weeks of your return to Korea.
It's scuppered a few of my holiday plans due to having less money than I expected But on the plus side, my winter holiday should rock |

Yeah I'm renewing for EPIK and I was told the same thing. They pay your airfare directly if you're finished working for them (not renewing).
Not a huge deal, when I flew in they paid my money back at the beginning of week 2. |

Ok. Thanks. I've had it cleared up and it is indeed the case. That's a bugger as I'll be a bit skimp during the holidays as a return ticket to my country is about the same as my salary. When does the double paycheque get paid ? Your 12th month ? So during the holidays ? |

I'm finishing my second year contract. When I took a break last summer, they paid me back for my airfare before I left. I think it's all about your co-teacher getting documents in quickly. As for the "severance," I had to wait about 5 months before they got around to that. After neglecting it a few months, they decided they wanted to pay me and another woman at the same time.
Now I'm getting ready to go back. According to my contract I have to go within 10 days of my contract expiry date. I assumed that since also in the contract it tells me I should be working during the contract that this was 10 days after the contract was over. I asked my co-teacher to ask my supervisor about staying 20 days after the contract was finished. I have some things I want to do here. Apparently, he said no, I need to leave not more than 10 days before my contract is completed...but before my contract is completed. Now, I would have accepted it, albeit reluctantly, if he said that I have to leave ten days after I'm finished. But this got me really annoyed. I already don't understand why they care what we're doing after our contract.
OK, to many of you this would be a blessing, but I really want to stay a little bit longer. Does anyone have experience with cashing in the ticket and leaving on a different day? I'm curious how closely immigration and education are tied together here, and I don't want to end up with $2k less than I had anticipated.
***EDIT: Answered severance question |

I can be paid to you any time AFTER your return and within 2 weeks of your return to Korea. |

It seems to depend on one's province. Even though my EPIC contract states I will be reimbursed after returning, my POE paid for my tickets 'up front' through the Government Transportation Request (GTR) process. |
