Bought this W300 lighter the other week from a GS25. The thing never worked properly, so I filled up my old Zippo with fluid and went back to using that.
Anyway, I forgot to bring my Zippo to work today so I only had that old lighter from the GS25. I tried using it as there was no one around to ask to borrow a lighter from, and the internal mechanism got stuck (the original problem) with a large flame lit. I was fiddling with it when I noticed the flame was going into the case with the fluid. At that point I dropped it, stepped back and watched it explode. It popped pretty loud too; it sounded like someone dropping a large rock onto pavement.
If it would've been in my hand then I would've had to be hospitalized.
That's the... fifth time that's happened to me in Korea. Don't by the cheap lighters if you value your appendages. |

As a pretty heavy smoker who ONLY uses the 300-500won convience store lighters I have never seen that happen. Either you have been VERY unlucky...or you are doing something with these lighters you shouldn't be... perhaps they should come with instructions |

It happens to me all the time! I light the thing... doesn't work, so I change the little toggle on the side to get a big flame. I light it again, get a massive flame that won't go away unless I shake the lighter around or spit on it or something.
That's what this one was doing. Maybe I'm the reason things need to be child proofed |

Probably a North Korean lighter. I used to see them quite often; they said "DPRK" on the bottom, and they'd often squirt fire about six inches high. I blew a couple up by throwing them at the ground.
I think they stopped putting "DPRK" on them now, as I haven't seen any like that in a year or so. Still I get the odd napalm shooting one though... |

Is that the best they can do? Flood the market with cheap, exploding lighters and hope it injures a few people? |

| Ever try pulling a trigger with a scorched finger? Or playing starcraft? It's no joke, my friend. The Norks are a cunning bunch. |

u got the lighter turned up too high and its oozing gas thats not burning cos the flame is sitting too high, then it pools a little, catches light, melts the plastic and blows up.....
stop turning them up to full flame, or buy matches. |

I heart this thread.
My buddy (from Korea) and I would smoke together, and he was always trying to show me weird lighter tricks. He said that they were impossible with American lighters. Now I guess I believe him! |

| That happened to me once when I still smoked. I was standing at a table under a big picture of The Duke drinking with some brothers. I flicked the lighter, and a thirty centimeter flame shot out. Yes, they swear it was at least that. I just know it was fuckin' bright. Burned my moustahce, nose hairs, nose, eyelashes, and one eyebrow. I didn't have enough hair to scorch, or I would have too. We were pretty drunk, and the rest of the table just stood there goggle-eyed, so I played it cool and drawled, aka The Duke, "Well I guess that's what I get for buyin' a cheap lighter." |
