In the spirit of an earlier thread... Twisted Evil

Quote:
Thousands of exiled Zimbabweans are living in poverty in the UK, there's been a gun battle outside the US consulate in Istanbul, and Iran are testing more nuclear-capable missiles but what the newspapers really want to draw your attention to today is the case of Sophie King, a woman who broke her ankle and won 7,200 after her Dolcis stiletto heel snapped on a night out.

This is significant, apparently, because it could set a precedent for hundreds of other women with crap shoes to claim compensation. In fact, there's probably someone tottering around in plastic heels from Bhs right this second, begging her friend, "Push me over we'll split the cash!"

Soph herself intoned darkly, "I know so many people who have gone over in their heels, it's not funny."

She's wrong: as anyone who's watched someone fall over will testify, it is very funny. But no, King seems to have confused buying defective stilettos with a Crimestoppers murder enquiry, warning, "It wouldn't surprise me if other people came forward." (Though, if they do, their ankles probably aren't as broken as all that.)

She's wrong again: other people shouldn't be allowed to come forward, and King should be forced to give her 7,200 back. These people are demanding payment for falling over while wearing stilts, which is one step away from asking for compensation for cutting off your own arm.

Yes. Absolutely, yes. God, yes. Women should have the right to shoes.

The UK seems to be in need of serious tort reform.

Stilletoes all the way, they are damn sexy -- on a girl that is.

Stilletos? That's putting it kindly.

They used to be called f***-me pumps.

A woman? From the UK?? Most British women that I meet in Korea are obese. I'm guessing this sheila was a big fatso as well.

It's the pilot; not the plane.

It's all about finding your center of gravity. Shocked Very Happy

But when a heel breaks, it's safer to be closer to the ground.

So you are diametrically opposed to fatsos wearing stilettoes? Because.....

I voted no. Even though I appreciate a nice sexy long leg in pumps, they have never directly affected me.

Workboots, on the other hand, have saved my feet from countless injuries before I took up my teaching career.

Because obviously, she'd stomp on his foot in those shoes if he shot his mouth off? Wink

Stilettos aren't even designed for human feet. Women get their toes surgically altered to fit into those things.

Women have a legitimate complaint. These shoes can cost well over $300 a pair. Think about your shoes. What if you paid over $300 and a month after wearing them, the soles fall apart.

These lawsuits should send a message to these companies that if you are goign to charge an astonomical price for your shoes, then you'd better back up the pricetag with quality, not just the name brand.

Shoes are no different than any other consumer good. If you pay top dollar, you expect top quality. It doesn't matter if its shoes or electronics.
