Hi,

I was reading a thread below about travel to China this winter. One poster recommended going to Yunnan, in South China.

My wife and I were planning on going to Beijing or Shanghai for about three nights - from xmas eve or xmas day. After reading that thread though, I realised they would both be freezing.

The idea of going somewhere warmer for a few days is quite appealing - and Yunnan does look nice. Would anyone have any recommendations on who to book a flight and hotel with, where are the good places to stay etc. My wife is Korean and is looking on Korean websites, but we don't really fancy a fully-fledged guided tour. A bit of that would be nice, but we don't want hectic - just looking to chill out somewhere peaceful and interesting for a few days. Preferably somewhere that's warmer than Seoul

thanks in advance for any thoughts or advice on this.

Alistair

While I haven't been yet, I've heard good things about Lijiang. It has a beautiful old town and great opportunities for seeing some good scenery. I believe you can fly there, connecting through Kunming.
