"McCain was one of the Keating Five senators who intervened with federal regulators on behalf of Lincoln Savings and Loan head Charles Keating Jr, a six-figure campaign contributor and, in McCain's case, a business partner with his wife and father-in-law. The late 1980s-early 1990s savings and loan crisis cost US taxpayers more than US$100 billion. Keating was convicted of fraud and more, and the Senate Ethics Committee "rebuked" McCain. To make amends, McCain became an advocate of campaign finance reform from 1994, co-sponsoring the Bipartisan Campaign Reform act that became law in 2002."

There are several Obama threads floating around. I thought we needed a McCain thread for balance. |

Yes, I think we should give McCain the attention he craves, since the MSM was so focused on Obama last week.
Keating 5 is a little old, but the incident does fit a pattern when it comes to McCain and his rich niche.
In a recent flip-flop, McMoron dropped his 'no new taxes' pledge.

When asked if that includes a possible hike in the payroll tax, McCain reiterated that nothing -- including such a tax hike -- is "off the table."
"I don't want tax increases. Of course, I'd like to have young Americans have some of their money put into an account with their name on it," McCain said.
However, in a February interview with Stephanopoulos, which also aired on "This Week," McCain made a pledge not to raise taxes as president. When Stephanopoulos asked, "Are you a 'read my lips' candidate, no new taxes, no matter what?" McCain responded affirmatively: "No new taxes." |
He's not only channeling Bush Jr, he's gone ahead and channeled Bush Sr.! |
