I keep getting this strange popup that seems to come up at randomly. It takes up the entire page and there's no way of closing it except for cntr, alt delete. When I do that, it often closes the other browsers I have open as well. It's the one that says "Search the Web". I've tried to get it using Adaware but apparently it's not something on my harddrive. Anybody getting this? Any ideas how to stop it? Can you block individual web sites using the "options" feature? |

You could download www.popswatter.com or one of the others. They seem to work pretty well. I don't trust them 100%. They dump a lot of their own crap on your computer but do definitely stop the popups. |

I'd love to see your problem. Are you in seoul?
Another program to download (free) and try is "Zonealarm". You can find that at www.downloads.com. It is a firewall program, which, when you run it the first time or so, tells you what programs are accessing the net (or trying to). Then you can use that to figure out what things running in the background might be causing your problem. You can block them from accessing the net, too.
I'm sure your problem is on your hard-drive. I think you have an imbedded program that may be difficult to remove. Think about what programs you have downloaded and installed. When you do a "Ctrl/Alt/Delete", you can see a list of all the programs running in the background. One of these might be your problem. You can play around with removing individual ones that seem to be strange. Then you can go to Add/Remove programs in your Control Panel and remove ones from the list that seem odd. I'd recommend doing that first, actually. |

Thanks guys.
Actually Derrek, I have zonealarm installed. I just updated the file. Maybe it will work better now. The problem with eliminating files is that if you don't know their function, you could screw your computer. Unfortunately, there are quite a few that I don't know about. |

sounds like a 'browser hijacking' - maybe, try SpyBot S&D. It will catch a lot of things that Ad-Aware seems to miss.
Google's new toolbar has a built-in popup stopper as well. I use popup blocker free edition, and am happy with it. |
