I'm trying to plan a board game cafe meet with my ex and several of my friends in Gangnam this saturday afternoon..
Basically, a board game cafe is a, well, it's a cafe of sorts, with tons of board games in store. You choose a game, and play it with friends.
You pay an hourly rate, and can order drinks whilst playing.
That was the brief explanation for people who were curious
Now, I was wondering if anyone knew a decent one near Gangnam station? Quality and diversity of board games more than anything, really. |

| Can't help you in Gangnam, but the best way to ID good board game cafes is: Do they serve beer? Many don't. |

| There's Jumanji near Ehwa. Not really close to Gangnam though. |

Honestly, the idea is great, a place to hang with your friends and play some board games, but I walked away thinking it was a little too expensive for the experience. I went to the one at COEX, which had a ton of games and had a great atmosphere. The thing I didn't like was that each person had to pay the per hour fee. It's not per table or according to what game(s) you play.
Either way, it was fun, if only a little expensive,

thanks for the replies anyway, guys
Yeah, it's a per hour fee for each person. 2000-3000 won to be exact.
I did some naver-researchin' (I don't really trust naver with shop searches) then actually went to the area to make sure the store still existed, and that they had the game RISK on hand, which is what the ex wanted to play
It's going to be awesome.
And, as for the beer..
there's going to be anywhere between 4-7 people.
only 3 will be of age..
And besides, it's going to be in the middle of the day. who wants to get drunk in the middle of the day? |

did it today, but then I went golfing today. Golfing and the 19th Hole go hand in hand. |

Apparently.. especially in this heat. According to my dad especially. (Promotion at work = golf club membership + 4-7 trips to the course a month )
But I mean, in the middle of the streets around Gangnam station on a Saturday, 4-7 respecable looking people, some looking barely of age, some not even of age at all? |

There IS a boardgame cafe very close to Kangnam station. Trouble is, unless I can remember the correct exit number it's going to be difficult to describe. Here's the best I can do:
Go out of either exit 6 or 7 (sorry, can't remember which). The exit you want is on the opposite side of the road from Teenie Weenie (which I think is close to exit 2).
From this exit walk straight ahead and take the first right-hand turn, which will take you uphill. Then I "think" you take the first left (or maybe the 2nd). As you walk along, look up and to the right because you're looking for a small sign on the 2nd floor above a convenience store. If you can read hangeul you'll see a sign for board game cafe. It's only a few hundred meters from the subway so you can't get too lost, and if you say "board game cafe" to a local shop keeper they can probably point you in the right direction.
Enjoy. |

I'm not including all of your statement and I don't know about your situation. But I think you are doing it wrong. Way wrong. |

To amilin, Skippy, and all those who love game rooms... I also enjoy board game cafes, and recently tried the one in COEX. I admit, they can get a little pricey after a while, and to this I've found a solution.
Do y'all know the Huh? International Cafe in Gangnam in the Pagoda building? Do you know they have a bunch o' board and card games? Do you know it's free to foreigners? Even if you're not a foreigner, there's a one time 3,000 Won charge.
I went there two weeks ago to check it out with the gf. It's great - they have English books and magazines, movie rooms with movies and tv shows, movie nights, Seinfeld nights, board games, and probably more stuff I don't even know about. It would be an excellent place to go and meet people if I was new here or single, and wanted to make some K-friends. Anyway, we both decided if we wanted to play board games again, that was the place to go! At first I felt a little guilty on the thought of going there purely to play board games, and also posting the idea here... but I figure it's a trade-off since there's some really cool Korean young adults there who can join in on the fun and practise their English.
The games are on a shelf on the right wall when you walk in. There's also a cafe for some eats and drinks. |
