I was soundly sleeping and got woken by a scream in the night. These dumb asses have drinking parties all night long in front of my house on weeknights by the river, but are absent on weekends. There's a river access parking lot right in front of my house where selfish and inconsiderate people drink, eat, and leave all their litter while making a lot of noise in the middle of the night. Doesn't anyone care? I guess so, the police were called, but I'm not sure who called them.

5 minutes later after getting woke up, I noticed a police motorcycle flashing his red light pulling into my driveway and then just leaving, but not going into the river access lot. I ask myself, "why didn't he go down to the river road in front of the house?" I was trying to make my way outside in time to talk to him, but he was gone. He probably thought it was me yelling when he seen I had turned on all the lights after I had woke up. I then noticed a group of guys walking around outside laughing.

I get really pissed when woke up in the middle of the night. I'm considering telling my boss that we need to go to the police station to have a talk. I believe it's possible someone lied to the police and said I was yelling as they didn't go where the 3 groups of people were sitting in the lot having parties and they were in plain site. Koreans are sure tolerant ones who must keep the lube ready at times.

I know if this was my country, I'd be ready to fight as I was woke up by a honking car in the states in my driveway at 3AM and shot up out of that bed and outside with no pants ready to fight making threats and yelling. It really pizzes me off to be woke up by screwballs.

What's the deal? Don't they have to get up early? I"m sure they do as few work at night and if they did work at night, they would be at work right now.

Was Tuesday some sort of special day? I was woken up by people screaming (not yelling - screaming) at 2am on Wednesday morning too.

It was the first time, and I've been in this apartment for four months. They woke the person upstairs up too, and probably evryone else within two blocks.

Look around for those 'safety shops'. There's usually one in any city. It's where the factory employees/bosses go to get safety equipment. You can see in the windows the fluorescent vests, gloves, steel toed boots, etc.

In there are some soundproof headphones just for keeping out sound. Like airport crew, shooters at a shooting range, jackhammer users wear.

If you wear earplugs, AND the 'jackhammer headphones' while you sleep I guarantee you won't hear a thing.

That thought always occurs to me when people say get ear plugs.

Hahaha, I did that once (not in Korea) when some idiot was parking his Mercedes 4 floors underneath my bedroom window. It was late at night (or early morning) and the guy was waiting in front of a bar with his car audio on full blast. So I dropped an egg on the car roof, but I accidentally picked one of my Vietnamese (now ex) wife's "special eggs" from the fridge - those pickled in salt water until they become harder than boiled!

The effect was fantastic but really unexpected (not a gentle splush but more of a sonic boom type of sound). I've never done that again since then.

Fortunately there were none of the precious "hot vit lon" (duck eggs with fetus inside) in the fridge at the time... although it would look more like a "natural incident" for the target.

Since I'm in Korea I am seriously considering buying a dozen eggs and leave them out in the heat a few days for just such an occasion. There's a lot of car door slamming going on in front of my house from 10pm to 2 am. I'll never understand how a 4 door car can have its doors slammed 6 to 8 times before they finally drive off... after leaving the engine running for at least 15 minutes.

With ear plugs AND jackhammer soundmuffs you need a special alarm clock to be able to hear it. The classic model alarm clock with the two big bells on top.

I live in an apartment over a Soju Hof.

One night an old drunk was banging on the cage about 3am after the place was closed, and he was crying.

I threw a bucket of water out the window.

Hasn't happened again.

Uh, have NONE of you lived in a freaking metropolitan city before Seoul? Seoul is a city. A big one. People don't all go to bed by 9 pm or quietly read the paper in the living room. I went to bed hearing freaking gun shots in the US city I left, so...listening to a drunk ajusshi get in a fight isn't exactly stuff to start a "WHY ARE KOREANS SO ________" thread over. Christ.
