Wow... that's good to hear. If you don't like GEPIK, just avoid going to a conference.
Personally, I have to laugh. They're being pretty ballsy for an organization so hard-up for people to teach. I'm sure the school will regret having to fire you. |

With the economy the way it is in the west right now, I'd be willing to bet that recruiters are doing quite well. They will not have a problem finding a new teacher.
I'm still a bit confused actually. I'm not sure if it was because Gepic ordered them to fire me or if it was because they felt embarrassed or both.
Honestly, it's not a bad gig if anyone is interested. It's in Bundang. I will give the information to anyone interested.
I don't have any hard feelings other than the swiftness of how the situation was handled. I was fired by 0915. Considering my experience and history, I felt I deserved a written warning. I've seen teachers get away with alot worse than skipping out on a Gepic event.
Normally, with the exception of something really bad like abusing a student, a teachers record is taken into consideration concerning an absence or missed class.
If the order came from Gepic, my school COULD HAVE vouched for me. I've never been late to class, always prepared. I saw 19 different classes once a week. Most Korean teachers see less than 10 classes 2-3 times a week.
I had 665 students. Most Korean teachers have around 350
I was a worker.
My schools decision was made before I ever got to school. |

Seems weird that they'd check with Immigration... unless they already had some idea that you'd left the country. Sounds like somebody dimed you out. Who knew you were going? |

If you are on an E2 then you don't own your visa. Your employer is your sponsor and thus owns your visa. As your sponsor they have every right to contact immigration. They are responsible for you.
Your surprised at getting fired for not going to work? That's just stupid. |

Apparently you haven't been to a Gepik orientation conference. I wouldn't classify that as work. I never missed what I would really be considered work.
Furthermore, if you can read properly, I never said I was "surprised" to be fired. I said that considering the time and effort I put into my school and my record as an English teacher, they could have given me a written warning.
I never missed a class. I've seen teachers that have missed actual class time and gotten less than a written warning!

Ohh I did, but they wasn't trying to hear my thoughts on the Gepik orientation. They know the Gepic orientation lectures are repetitive information.
I didn't say much of anything yesterday. I just chilled and listened. When they told me to leave, I left. That was that.
Malingering to get out of a Gepic event or test day is like using the bank excuse to get off early. I'm not going to dignify that argument. We all have done it. |

It is not true that we have all "done it" as in lied in order to leave early ... I am not even remotely suprised that you have been fired for this. I would have been very suprised if you had not been. Deliberatly lying to get out of doing something, as you have done here is the sort of thing that will get you fired working for anyone in any country. Unless you have a different contract to the one I had attending orientation is even included in the contract. I do not like the fact that you have tried to minimise this as something we would all do ... Not everyone has your system of morality which seems to see lying to get extra time off as OK |
