Just a note for people who like the train like I do, the new Seoul Station is now open as of last Fri. Now don't go out exit #2 to get the train from the subway, you'll have to walk a couple of hundred meters south to it.

It's real nice, much brighter than the old one, hopefully the bums won't overrun it like the old one.

Just hope they don't tear down the old one, its a great piece of architecture.

Now why didn't they have this done for the World Cup???

Seems they've been building a few shiny new stations - the Suwon Station opened up recently, a hell of an improvement on the old one... and Yongsan is nearly finished, that will be massive when it's done.

Cheonan also got an over-haul. No Starbucks or shopping center like Suwon, but it sure is a lot nicer!

I liked the old Yongsan station. All them nice wooden planks. Real classic.

tj there are signs in the subway station for the new entrance, you have to go down to near where you transfer to the #4 line.

Those stations are going to be stops on the high-speed rail line. That's the reason they're re-doing Yongsan Station as well.

Right, see Korea Train eXpress

However, there have been recent media reports that President Roh, for political reasons, has ordered construction of new high speed stations that were not part of the approved plan, so that may slow things a bit.

It's all about the the high speed to incheon in 2008.
I hope they eliminate the namyong trestle and alleviate a massive problem by changing to an underground at that point.
the namyong and samgachi area are major problems.
it's the speedway in.............
actually they would have done better to change the entire location of the main national railroad stop
the koreans are probably some of the worst modern urban planners.
the seoul station is in the wrong location.

good point ratslash. I love the present location. One of the many reasons I like the train.

My problem with the Namyeong area is thats where I usually stay when I come to Seoul and if you get a room on that side of the Kaya it can be noisy.

I did try the rainbow next door this past weekend and it was much quieter though the condom machine in the room was a bit of a distraction
