I am looking for a job teaching English in Korea. I've had offers from Teach Away, YBM, Footprints recruiting and a Korean company called Kim & Joe. I'm trying to decide which company to go through. I am going with a good friend of mine and we will be staying in Busan. Has anyone gone through these companies? Heard good or bad things? |

Go through them all. You're looking for the best school, and most schools tend to work with the same recruiters. Therefore, more recruiters means more options. |

footprints and kim&joe are recruiters who will help youfind a job. ybm is a school offering you a job.
i disagree w/the other poster; pick one recruiter and go from there. both kim&joe and footprints are well known/reputable.when i was looking for a job, too many recruiters led to too many phonecalls, emails, and repititious job offers. |

First job went through footprints. Hogwon hell! Second: contacted directly: Public school gravy. Just my experience. Yours may vary. Contact many different schools. |

How much do recruiters take for commission? Is it like head hunters here, where the Hakwon pays them a separate placement fee? or are they taking a cut from your salary? |

Don't quote me, I've heard the recruiters get 1000 for finding a teacher. Not gospel and I'm sure it varies. But direct contact was a better option for me. Eliminate the middle man and negotiate your own deal. Don't underestimate yourself. Everything is negotiable here. Literally. |

I know the folks from Kim and Joes, but I wasn't recruited through them.
Many of the teachers they brought over here often hang out with them at the bars in PNU, or sometimes at their house. They are good people, and well known in the local teaching/drinking community.
They also organize day trips every once in awhile. A bunch of my friends went with them on a trip not too long ago.
PM if you want me to put you in touch with someone who was recruited by them and has been on one of their trips. |
