Ok, so after signing 3 contracts, 2 power of attornies, and having my stuff in customs for the last 40 days I got my visa today from the consulate!!!
But my point of this post is I have job from 4-10 making 2.5 and I wanted to get another part-time gig. The reason why is I have a credit card debt and 20K in student loans I want to pay off.
So I found this job where I would work M,T,Th,F from 10-2 and Wed 11-2.
This P/T job is close to where I live and is perfect b/c I will not have to wake up early and I get off at 2 leaving me 2 hours to get lunch and do whatever.
But am I extending myself to much. That would be a 10 hour day day.
I don't know what it pays yet as I just e-mailed the guy so that is obviously going to be a big determining factor but if it pays good I think I want to do it.
Does anyone else work long schedules and in the end is it worth it? I just want to pay my debt and be done with it. I also have no foreign teachers at my 4-10 job and from what the secratary told me their are no foreigners in my Bldg so I thought this P/T gig would be good to maybe meet some people so I am not totally freindless and lonely.
I just don't know. I was thinking maybe my first year in Korea I could work my booty off and then any years preceding work minimally and save. What would you do?? |

what kinda visa do you have? it might be "illegal" for you to work at another school, or it might be against your primary employer's contract with you (meaning you'd have to most likely keep it secret or risk being let go)... either way, i'd personally do it, and if it proves to be too much, then just quit the morning gig... even if you did it for a month, it's more $ than you had a month ago, right? anytime i ever took a second job in america i always went into the deal knowing that i could quit/be fired anytime and it wouldn't really be that big a deal... i feel you on the school debt, i still owe fsu a quarter of my paycheck each month... lame... |

Try the first job first. If it's easy and you still have energy to spare, then look into getting another. |

Just hang out with me and my friends. Then you'll be ok.
But I expect things... |

Under the current rules for holders of E2 visas:
You are aware that a 2nd job must have the permission from the 1st job, agreement from the 2nd job AND permission from your local immigration office.
You can't work or even start a 2nd job until you have your ARC.
Your 2 jobs cannot have a combined work week longer than 44 hours.
(immigration rules).
Personally, I suggest that you skip the 2nd job until AFTER you get settled into your new job, new neighborhood, and new culture.
After you figure out the living life in Korea stuff, you can consider a 2nd position.
Feel free to ignore my advice but you do so at your own peril.

hey there nolegirl - you also might need to take into account jet lag - it will take you a while to get used to the time difference alone - demanding too much of yourself too soon can screw you up in both jobs - give yourself some time to get used to things first and then look around and see what else you can do - there are plenty of opps here to earn - |

Moosehead, your so wise!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just to let you know I am relying on soley you to help me and I usually get myself in weird prediciments, I hope I am not asking to much but I think I will need you to quit your job, I will need your undivided attention. Can I come over for din when I arrive?, all do the dishes??
BTW, I have figured out how to beat jet lag. I am riding first class b/c of my skymiles and so I will drink myself silly on all the free booze and then maybe meet a nice man since I am in first class (my first and probably last time)in first class and join the mile high club, since first class has their own private facilities, I will not be rushed! Then after that I will be craving a cigarette and that is when I will pop a xanax and a perkiset and whatever other random pills I have floating around the bottom of my bag, this way I will knock out and avoid any nicotine withdrawls so when I wake up I will be to phucked up to no what time it should be... just another day or night or whatever. The I will go to customs and demand my boxes they have withheld delivery on b/c of some crap customs BS and then I will grab my other 3 boxes and then I will have my recruiter put my 6 boxes weighing 500 pounds in the car why I sit back and smoke a stogie with a haze over my eyes wondering "where am I, and how the phuck did I get here and why are there so many asians here." Then we arrive at my apt that has no elevator; I will make the recruiter call someone to move my boxes as I will be passed out on my bed by this point. My recruiter must earn his $$$. Koreans are strong, right??? I am on the 3rd floor
See moosehead, I won't be jet lagged at all, no worries!!! |

good words of advice...
dont bite off more than you can chew at first, if its your first time teaching - just get used to it before you start doing 12 hour shifts a day. Youll burn out and then be no good. Wait til you get here then pick up something if u think u can handle it.....jobs are everywhere |

Yeah, go easy. Teaching kids for 6 hours is much more tiring than you probably can iimagine at the moment.
I knew someone who took on a second job and it nearly destroyed her. You have to remember you will be on the go until 10 at night, so if you take on something in the morning it'll be harsh. Not saying you couldnt cope with it, but youll have to accept that youre going to be tired all the time and have little leisure time (especially if you take a job you have to spend time preparing for) |
