I don't recall the exact webpage, but it was out of the Iowa State Linguistics Department, I believe. I have to look it up myself to include in the syllabus for my Applied Phonetics and Phonology course that starts this week. If I find the exact page, I'll post it here.
Edit: Found it! It's at this address from the University of Iowa: http://www.uiowa.edu/~acadtech/phonetics/about.html#
Very useful! |

Glad to help. Just out of curiosity, what kind of class are you doing a demo for and how are you going to use this site in it? You must have good computer facilities to be able to do something like this. |

Its a middle school demonstration class for the local board of education.
Rather than do something from the school textbook where the students have something memorised and provide it on cue,I'll use the demo class as a perhaps more typical class.
I'll use the cutaway face part as an illustration of what ought to be happening in their mouths to make the right sounds.I'll also try to get them to bring mirrors so they can check themselves too.
I'll just plug the computer into the projector.
Of course, one problem with it is that the Iowa clip uses North American English and,I,um,don't.I don't think anyone will notice this discrepancy too much though.I've already noted it as an anticipated problem in the lesson plan. |

Just don't do any rhotacized vowels or flaps; focus on the other consonants and no one will notice the difference.
It's definitley cool that you're doing something like this, especially for the demo before the BoE people. My sense is that there needs to more deviation from the book in the schools here, and certainly more informed work on pronunciation with students. I hope it goes well. Let me know. |

that should be amended to '...the Iowa clip uses God's own accent'.
Good luck with your demo. |

I want to say something anti-American to that, but I won't. |

The State of Iowa and all 2.9 million of its citizens thank you for your restraint. |
