Yea, the Summer camp programs are understaffed as contracted foreign teachers take their vacations. |

Here's what I think when I see this request for volunteers.
You have the new regs. Stuff like going ALL the way back to your home country for a consular interview because of some black mark on your immigration record. Fuel costs are up. I haven't checked but a flight back to my home country, if I should have some minor infraction on my immigration record, is BIG MONEY. Yeah, you can be cavalier and look at it as a 'holiday' to touch base at home, bum around and relax.
Then you have the school board asking for charity from the SAME FOREIGNERS life has been very steep for since the new regs. Yes, I'm lumping foreigners altogether. FTs and the target group the gov't would like to volunteer 4 weeks in the Summer. The gov't knows FTs wouldn't likely volunteer for this (understatment).
And stuff like discrimination in banks. Not being able to get an international debit card without having a lot of determination to cut through the bs. Or the drug test thing for an E2 visa. That's new. Or the decision, in Kyongido, to allow foreigners who haven't finished Uni to teach in pub schools. Or the TALK program.
Yeah, bitching and whining.
But it takes A LOT OF NERVE for the gov't/educ office to ask for volunteers. Ask for mercy, charity and cry broke.
And back to my first example. Can a FT plead for mercy, cry broke when IMM wants them to fly ALL the way back to their home country for a consular interview? Not bloody likely.
NERVE, a ton of it. |

Let me get this straight. One government agency is asking us to volunteer for a program and if we do, another government agency will deport us. Is that right? |

I'd volunteer but won't show up for the camp. |
