I am posting this for a friend. My friend's employer went to the pension office and really screwed my friend over. The employer paid a visit to the pension office, got them to give back money, and now my friend is being accused of not making her pension contribution. What would be a solid game plan for my friend? |

file a formal complaint, re-pay her portion of the pension contributions to the NPS and have them chase the employer.

Don't bother going to the local pension office, either, as that's probably the one the boss went to. Go over their heads to the National office in Jamsil. They'll crack the local office's knuckles before cracking the boss' head. |

I'll tell you what...Korea is looking more and more like a den of thieves and liars. I know I was lied to at a hogwan once, and I got out of there in a flash...but the stories one reads here.
"I came here on a year-long, began teaching, and was terminated after only two months because my students complained to my boss about my classes. Now I have to go back home on my own dime..."
"I just learned my school hasn't been contributing to my pension, and my account is empty. I have three days to get this straightened out before leaving on a jet..."
"My school hasn't been paying my insurance..."
"My outfit is trying to cheat me out of my plane ticket.."
"I just got canned with 1 month to go. Now I won't get my plane ticket home, nor will I get my completion bonus..."
"When I go back to the USA, it may take several weeks while waiting on a new visa. If I don't go to Tijuana and hang out during those weeks, I'll have to pay taxes to the IRS..."
"My school is trying to cheat me out of my severance pay. I have two days to do the paperwork and talk to a lawyer before going to the airport...."
Why do we come here again?

On this forum the majority is going to be negative. That's pretty much just how people are. The complaints, groaning and moaning is louder than the satisfied customer. I know plenty of people that have and continue to teach ESL in Korea, have not encountered these issues, and couldn't be happier doing what they do. |

Gary, does your friend have payslips? If it is mentioned either in their contract and on the payslips then there would be evidence that employee had no reason to not pay pension and was under the pretense that the employer was providing pension contributions.
Don't forget that it is the employer's responsibility to make contributions towards pension, health and other aspects and it is their responsibility to deduct it from the salary.
I would recommend that your friend visit the pension office in Jungro as they are pretty switched on. Sounds like your friend is having trouble with the pension office where he went. It's not his problem, it's the employers and pension. |

Let's look at this another way

*Edited to reflect what it might be like IF it wasn't people asking for help or their various situations. How far would these new threads get?
Put Ttompatz's post and Youngfrankenstein's posts together and you've got the solution to the problem. Did the Boss manage to sign out the money with his own signature? Or was he pretendig to be the Native teacher? |
