Cut and pasted from today's Korea Herald. Aside form 231 Koreans killed abroad in the past 5 years, it says at the bottom of the article that there are 320,000 Koreans living illegally in other countries. So, basically, a significant percentage of the Korean population is an illegal alien somewhere.
Ummm....errr....uhhh....they sure make a big deal about it when one of us stays a day late over our visa.
231 Koreans killed abroad
A total of 231 Koreans have been killed abroad over the past five years, a lawmaker said citing government data.
Rep. Lim Doo-sung of the ruling Grand National Party said most murder cases occurred in the United States where 74 Koreans were killed. It was followed by China and the Philippines with 27 each.
The remaining cases were reported in nations including Japan and Australia, said data from the Foreign Ministry.
In total, 15,748 people reported to the government of a loss or damages while visiting foreign countries between 2004 to June 2008.
Of them, 6,512 people, or 41.4 percent, were victims of larceny, and 1,214 people reported assaults.
Just over 1,000 people went missing.
The data also found that 320,000 Koreans were illegally residing in other countries.

Every contry has citizens who are living illegally somewhere else. Every country's government is well within their right to lay down the law on people who are in their country illegally. It's not only Korea. Japan has loads of people living illegally, so does the US, Canada, Australia, The UK. Let's not forget the EU. It's not just Korea.
There was recently within the past few months in LA a Korean woman who ran a convenient store who was killed. Some punk walked in with a gun and shot her. The whole thing was caught on camera as well. I wonder if they got the guy who did it. Most likely probably not. Really sad. |

Nobody says it was 'just Korea," but even the United States treats illegals much, much better than Korea.

I think it is safe to say that there are more Koreans living illegally in North America than there are North Americans living legally in Korea. Probably about 10 times more! |

So what's your point? It is the local Immigration's job to round up and deport these illegal aliens, not the local Koreans or Korean Immigration for that matter. And different countries have different requirements for Immigration and different rules. |

Okay, what about the US borders?
I hardly think of Texas or California when I think of the USA. When I jhear California and Texas, I think Aztlan, the half of Mexico we stole a hundred years ago. Mexicans born south of that arbitrary line called the Rio Grande have just as much right to migrate North as the Chicanos who have lived in Texas since before the partition.
The NAFTA agreement has also decimated Mexican living conditions and the economy. It's no coincidence that Clinton militarized the border the same year he passed NAFTA. So what, we push them in the shadows and support the FBI roundups? We should demonize desperate people? |

When does the FBI roundup illegals?
I thought that was INS jurisdiction?
Arbitrary line it's a freakin' river for cryin' out loud, how can you call that arbitrary.
With that logic you could say the US stole the Philippines from Mexico too.
The Chicanos you speak of were once the Texicans who fought along side the Texans to win independence from the Mexican Empire.
Now, that I got the facts straight for you.
My humble opinion is that all Mexicans should have free access into Texas and California with job and settlement rights.
I also think all US citizens should have free access to into Mexico with job and settlement rights.
However Canada.....
At least get the history right. |

on the fbi:
"The FBI made little attempt to distinguish between immigrants who had possible ties to terrorism and those who were swept up in the investigation."
--Inspector General of US Justice Department in a review of the FBI's methods in rounding up immigrants
(http://www.socialistworker.co.uk/art.php?id=4026 found via simple google search)
Using the Fbi for immi-round-ups is relatively new. The US will use any agency for the job. Now we have the Homeland Security goons, too.
The Rio is an arbitrary line. Yeah, I'm aware it is a river, but why that river. Why any river, why any border? Why just blindly accept the modern definition of a nation-state as outlined by the ruling class. At least in Roman times the people called the borders what they were, the extent of military occupation by the empire of Rome.
Wanting independence from the aristocratic state of Mexico and being annexed to the US are two different things. |

Bring back the Texas Republic!
Arbitrary would actually be the Northern Border of Texas.
As I recall the Republic was split in five section after it joined the Union. |
