I need to get travel insurance that covers me for around 7 - 8 months. The issue I am having with a lot of - UK - companies is that because I am leaving from South Korea they simply won't insure me as I have to be departing from my country of residence prior to travel commencing.
I have found world nomads but there seems to be a lot of issues with claims (I know i know, just like most insurers).
Anyways they were not best encouraging.
Does anyone have any info or experience dealing with insurers that will cover you when you are in a foreign country at the time of departure?
And please don't say 'go with a trusty Korean company'. |

travelinsurance.co.uk?
I didn't see anything in their FAQ that said you couldn't take insurance while abroad. |

How nomadic are you? If you still have a 'home address' in the UK then most UK banks will cover you. I have maintained an annual travel policy with a UK bank (let's just say that they gave me a Griffin Saver pencil case when I opened my first account) and because I've always kept my main, resident address in the UK - despite having been overseas for many years now - they have always accepted that I'm a UK resident. I don't lie to them, I just explain that I am a UK citizen and resident but am living abroad now.
I fell off a mountain in Uganda two years ago and they paid the medical expenses and even offered a medical repatriation if I wanted it (Ugandan healthcare was great though, didn't need it). Bear in mind that most banks are not the direct insurers and the policies are offered through other companies, eg Norwich Union and the like, and so you could always go to the partner company directly if the bank is not being helpful. |

My first choice initially.
Get to the end when you submit your payment details and there are 3 boxes you have to tick one of which states that, not only must you be in the UK at the present time, you must have been there for the last 6 months.
