Boracay Island: Phippines, anybody been there?

I'm heading there on my honeymoon and plan to just "walk" into a bungalow. Neither me nor my (future) wife need anything fancy, just a fan and attached bathrrom is cool.

So, is it like Thailand where you can just search around and find a place or is it a harder place to stay?

Depending in what season you go, you can simply walk onto White Beach and find a place to stay that meets your standard. Winter season might be a little tougher than in the summer. The one difference b/t Boracay and Thailand: the bungalows are located off the beach. The 10m dash from your balcony to the ocean is absent on Boracay.

I stayed at a bungalow at a place called the Saigon Inn(or something like that), ran by a Vietnamese ex-pat. Fairly good deal.

Yeah, i'm going mid-july. Kinda got the feeling it'll be "similar" to Thai but maybe more expensive on the accomodation end, and cheaper on the food(?).

So if I want a place for about 30,000 won.. I might have to walk abit?

Summer season is off season on Boracay. Some of the more posh places offer substaintial discounts. For 30,000 won, you should be able to find something better than bare bones.

Remember, Boracay is THE place for package tour groups (especially from KOREA! There'll be loads of them there) and such, so the costs for drinks and food won't be AS cheap as Thai, but you should be able to find what you're after.

Loads. Name a water-based activity, Boracay has it. There's also biking, hiking, horse-back riding and general lazing around, c o c k tail in hand. Nightlife there can cater to whatever your needs are, from nightclubs to chill-out bars. Food runs the gamut as well; Indian, Pinoy, Thai, Western, Italian, Japanese, Korean (of course) etc.

Silly question no-doubt- but have you really looked at what the Philippines will be like this time of year? I went to go for summer vacation a year ago- and read in the Lonely Planet that there would be storms of 'biblical proportions'...verbatum quote...I went in December instead...

It would be interesting at this time of the year- lots of serious weather, and not very many tourists. I understand they move the dive operations to the other side of the island in July.

I always loved South Beach in the summer because the tourists are gone, and a tropical torpor falls over everything. The rains fall whenever, the sky is a light show, and everything gets nice and intimate with the people still hanging around.
