I installed it to use dial up service when staying at moms for a couple days about a month ago. I go into my control panel to access the, "Programs and Features," to uninstall it, but it's not listed. Every time I boot my computer, it runs and slows my machine down. I have to kill it with the task manager as it won't stop when I select, "Exit."

Damned AOL is at it again. Good thing I didn't give them my bank card # or it would had cost me a lot more for 2 days of dial up. I got this shit on a free disk in a Wal-Mart store, but was desperate for a temporary dial up connection.

Please help me get rid of it. Thanks in advance.

Very clever of you, but the un-installer doesn't work and I already knew this much from my google search. Thanks anyhow.

You can set Vista to block that program from starting at start-up.

Boot into safe mode after using the msconfig to uncheck the service/program on startup. When into the system in safe mode, delete the folders (in Program Files), go into the registry (regedit) and delete any AOL entries (be careful - back up the entire registry first) and finally, go into services.msc and be sure that AOL is disabled.

Now reboot, get "wise registry cleaner" (free) and run it to locate and wipe all traces of the program.

This is pretty much the procedure fiollowed to get rid of any crapware (like Ahnlab) that is deeply wrapped up in the system.

Back up your data files to an external drive.
FORMAT
Install your software.
Restore your backed up data files.

Problem all gone and it will take less time and effort with less chance of a screwup than trying to remove it manually.

If your running other than Vista, how about installing WinPatrol. It's a free program which has options to stop or delay these hogging type programs. This should be an instant solution till you get round to removing it.

1. Install linux
2. Use tons of completely free software without any bogus ads or bloatware
3. ????
4. Profit!

P.S.
This is not a serious answer to the question. It's a joke. Don't crucify me please. Razz

Golly...install yet another program or format.

Both sound so tempting.

Certainly more tempting that trying to manually get rid of Ahn security software or AOL software.

A lot easier too.....

Damn, they are worse than viruses.

Well, I beg to differ.

Following the steps I outlined is reasonably fail-safe, even for a novice user.

To the OP: I find it difficult to fathom how you couldn't get even one hint of what to do from the Google page I linked you to.

Try here and follow the instructions; it seems to work for everyone else.

Or here, one link away from the page I linked:

There are some good free uninstallers. I use one called Revo, I use xp but i am assuming Confused they have one for vista. This one goes through and highlights all the leftover pieces in the registry and such and you can delete them easily.
