I received a package from the States, but it got held up in customs. I filled out the form and faxed it back. What happens next? Will they just release the package or will I have to go somewhere and pay?

Depends on contents/value. I think last time I had something sent, they told me they lowered the taxable amount from like $150 to $100 or something ridiculously low like that. I had 3 pairs of shoes sent and claimed $35 per pair to customs. They didn't believe me (Go DSW!!). After producing a receipt, the total value was $105 dollars and they made me pay about 40,000 won "tax" (more like ransom). You transfer this money to them at an ATM and they send it on its way. I still got 3 pair of shoes much cheaper than buying them here, but I was super pissed.
I have had several packages sent over the years and whenever something was held up in customs, the process took about 1-2 weeks total (much slower service than the high efficiency the rest of the government services offer). |

Thank you for your reply! Will they mail me another paper or call and let me know if I have to pay?

They called me, but doesn't hurt to check up after a couple days.

I guess I've been lucky. I get packages sent every couple months. Never had it checked by customs. I do, however, have it sent to my sister's house first and then she sends it to me. Making it look used and whatnot.
