My wife and I are leaving Korea (for the first time since our arrival last summer) to visit our families in the States. She's leaving a week before me and is a little nervous about flying by herself - she's never done it before.

To set her mind at ease, I have a few questions:

1) I understand she'll/we'll have to go through immigration before exiting the country. At what point does this take place? After check-in? After security?

2) How far in advance of departure would you recommend we arrive at the airport? When I've flown domestic in the past, I've aimed to arrive 1.5 hrs before my flight, but I'm not very familiar with international and I'm not sure how long the lines average at Incheon.

3) The wife doesn't care to take the airport bus; she'd rather take the sub. We took it to Incheon once, a long time ago...I can't remember how long it took. Would the bus be significantly faster? (We live in the Nowon area.)

Thanks!

You'll check in first with the carrier, then go through the security check. The final stop will be the immigration desk, where you'll get your exit stamp. After this stop, you'll be clear to head for your departure gate or wander the innards of the complex.

Go light, as in only one (light) suitcase and one backpack. The airlines are out for blood these days, and some are charging for a second bag now.

IF she has her re-entry or multi-entry visa then:
1)Check in, get your boarding pass and get rid of the luggage.
2)go through security
3)go through passport control
4) enter the airside of the terminal. Enjoy "the eye-shopping".

It is always advisable to check in 2 hours before flight time. This is especially true for US bound flights. They close check-in about 40 minutes BEFORE flight time. There is lots to do after check in so being early is not a problem. You CAN check-in 3 hours early for most flights.

The airport limo is faster than the subway and your luggage is checked under the bus so you don't have to worry about it from pickup to arrival. The bus travel times are usually about 1 hour from anywhere in Seoul.

Thanks!

From Nowon, definitely take the airport limousine bus. It takes off right by the station (Line 7, ext 5???) and goes NORTH (towards Madeul Stn).

It now goes the back route, avoiding the city and goes directly to Incheon... takes about an hour tops. I think it costs 11,000 won. If you take the subway, it'll be twice as long and half as comfortable.

Is there a schedule somewhere on the 'Net with bus departure times?
