I keep hearing things about this... friends of friends who work a dozen hours a week for like 3M Won a month and have four months vacation... I figure it's too good to be true, but I might as well ask.

I'm looking to move to Seoul at the end of my contract, in November. As for my qualifications... they're solid, at least. I only have a B.A., but it's in English (writing/lit concentration). I've heard they like to see a degree in English. I've published journalism and fiction in several reputable places, and worked as a copy editor for a major company. As for my experience, I've two and a half years teaching English, between Korea and Thailand.

So... where do I find these gigs? Because they are as hell aren't posted here. Anyone have a list of universities, so I can just send a form letter? Or other thoughts?

That was obviously a typing and not a writing error, but thanks for the useful reply. Now back to your amputee porn.

Anyone else?

Those jobs exist but they're all taken. To get one you must work for a couple of years at a shit university job with more like public school hours and vacation, but for less money than PS. Rolling Eyes

You don't really want to be a university English professor. You want to be a comedian.

How much experience do you have? If you don't have at least 3 years experience, (Just a hagwon won't cut it) you sure as hell better have some connections or you aren't one of those jobs. It's all about who you know.

I suggest moving to Seoul and take a HS job for a year before attempting a move to the bigs.

The second term is the fall term, so I'd assume it'd be better to apply in December. I imagine few schools have a vacancy at this time.

Don't wanna pee on your bonfire mate but you need to either be well connected or have a teaching licence or a masters. For a low level uni. with none of the things you are requesting with a connection then poss. My mate had a connection with an Englishee degree and landed the afermentioned number. However, no paid hols but 4 months off a year and a monthly salary of 1.9 mill. Hope it makes sense but I'm about to collapse from heat exhaustion!!

It's seasonal, too. Most uni gigs are signed for the spring semester. There's usually a dozen or more postings on Dave's for low-to-medium quality universities in October and November. The later the ad, the lamer the school, probably. Don't be scared to apply for ones that are asking for a master's, either, as they sometimes don't get the applicants they want, and will take a good teacher with a BA and relevant experience over a bloated old hack with an MA. Sometimes.
One other thing--anticipate MUCH more competition if you limit yourself to National universities, or to Seoul and Busan gigs. Small private unis will certainly be much more likely to hire you without an MA.
If you can't get something for September, you might look into a six-month in Japan or China as a uni lecturer. What's that one in Japan--Westgate? They make you work a LOT but they would probably hire you with your credentials, if what I've heard is true. You can go teach ESL in a uni there and make not much money but it'd be fun, except for the long commutes and hideous hours. That'd be your foot in the door for uni gigs here.
China, you'd make very little, but your students would probably be very motivated and you'd live well for cheap.

As for three million a year with four months off...not really likely, dude. Those are the Golden Ones and they mostly have no trouble finding the people they need without ever advertising. I never saw any ads like that when I was looking, at least.
Good luck to you, in any case.

The 3 million plus with 4 months paid vacation is Hongik University...They also give 50million won key money (used to be 100million).

I have a friend who just got it. He worked at CDI for a year, and just randomly checked the Hongik University site a couple of months ago, he filled out the form, did the interview, and got hired.

He only has a Bachelor's degree..

Just curious. Is he teaching English Education majors? That is, students who are planning on becoming English teachers in middle school or high school? I'm in a Uni gig right now and probably will stay here another year, but the pay is so so (forturnately I have supplemental writing classes and the summer immersion).

I happen to love my job because I teach kids who are passionate about learning English. They want to be English teachers, so I'm looking for that in my next gig.
