Possible to call a cell phone from a pay phone from here?

Will the money changer give me change to use or can I use a cc in the phone?

OK, I did it, but about 6 years ago.

I landed in PEK. Bought a domestic ticket, went to the domestic gate. Bought a pay phone card for (I can't remember), maybe $5 worth of RMB, and called my friends cell phone.

You will probably have to buy a card to make this happen in the airport. In Beijing there may be phones taking money, but probably need a card in the airport. There should be someone selling cards near the phones.
I used a phone in the departure lounge, but probably have in the arrival area also.
