I know that this has been done before, but I just went to McDonald's for the first time in a long time. There it was right by the registers for everyone to read; "Our beef is Australian and safe."
An American company that operates around the globe that has to bow their heads and give in to this total ignorance of a few Korean radicals  . |

I think in a couple weeks they'll take the signs down and just start serving mad-cow burgers from the US. Once the frenzy is over, I'd bet it will be back there.
On another topic, I was told by my sister-in-law here that some Koreans don't eat Aussy beef cuz it stinks when you cook it. Anyone heard this? Smells the same to me, but then again if I were a local and was told it stinks, of course the whole country would have to agree. |

The sign at burger king reads something like this, "Korean Burger King is clean and safe."
Do they publish a list of the Burger Kings around the world that are dirty and dangerous? Or is that a secret? |

| McDonald's has always served Australian beef here, at least as long as I have been here (2002). I think now you are just noticing the signs because it is an issue. |

| Back in the early 90s, when I was living in France, they had on the place mats similar notices saying their beef was French. Come on, this is McDonalds. |

The last time I got some Aussie beef from the butcher, in less than 48hours, it was spoiled and nasty. 48hours from frozen to putrid in a refrigerator... That's why I don't buy beef in general here in Korea... the conditions it's kept in probably is a hell of lot less safe than the meat, wherever it may come from, than the meat itself... |

American companies should further their agenda of globalization and enforce a pro-US standard for the rest of the world. How sad it is when Coca-Cola can't have private armies in South America and the Korean McDonald's has to buy meat from a country with some semblance of regulation and safety inspection. Maybe we should send some US Marines to teach the Koreans about our "national interests" and maybe learn 'em some obedience. Those slant-eyes above anyone should understand what the "honorable" thing to do is.
Where do Koreans get off demanding the right to choose where their food comes from? Next they'll start saying they don't want GIs raping killing teenagers...Damn shame. I remember a day when Yanks had pride and knew how to stamp their boots on these people. Might makes right, damn it! and McDonald's is the most powerful fast-food chain in the world. Why can't people respect their corporate masters?! |

At first I thought kiarell was being serious, and I was worried! Then I finished and had a good laugh. Well written, thank you!
As for using Aussie beef, who cares? Why do Americans have this belief that beef from their land is better than anyone else's beef? I personally like Aussie beef, never had a problem. I've had Hanwoo a few times, but I prefer not to get it because it's stupidly expensive. American beef would be nice, but honestly, what's the beef? Who gives a flipping fark? |
