It's Constitution Day, but nobody really gets the day off.

Friday, August 15th, however is Liberation Day, and everyone gets that day off.

They could have at least swapped it for a day off that really does mean something to the locals, such as Pepero day.

No, it happened before he took power. It was under the President Noh's leadership. During his 'reign of terror on holiday's' we lost two red days: April 5th (Forrest Day) and July 17th (Constitution Day). These are the main reasons why I hated his presidency.

I was told that it's gone because they had to get rid of a few holiday due to going to a 5 day work week.

That was the reason I heard too. I think it is crap because most company workers still work on Saturday's and Sunday's. If they want to be promoted of course.

The 5 day work week is for government institution, except for schools (every other week). Supposedly schools are supposed to eventually go to a 5-day week to. But it is still optional for businesses. I guess LG and Samsung type of businesses one day will go to a 5-day week. But I think it will take the current batch of business leaders to retire before the younger group gets in and decides to do a 5-day week.

This is exactly what my co-teacher explained to me 2 weeks ago.

Sorry, July 17th is no longer a holiday, but the next holiday is August 14th and then a lot of us will get 9 days off for Chuseok depending on if all your public schools you teach at are taking it. My main one is taking a whole week with 2 weekends, but I don't know about the others yet. Chuseok must be big in the rural areas as people go home and that's where home and family is for millions of Koreans.

Most people's roots in Seoul don't go that deep. Anyways, Chuseok falls on a weekend this year (i think). Historically, most public schools won't get the whole week off. Only the 3 days, and too bad if it's on a weekend. Schools in Seoul and area might get an extra day or two off. To allow time for families to get back from their traditional hometowns. But, most rural schools won't. It maybe that your school might have planned their school trip or something during that time to get you the week off. Not sure, I'm curious as to why one of your school gets the whole week off? Inquire for me...

Well, if chuseok falls on a tues, wed, or thurs day, then schools in Seoul might get the week off. But rural school don't...
