Hi,
I will finish my contract in 2 weeks in my public school and my plan was not to return home but go to China to work.
My school says they cannot pay a round trip airfare to China ( i want to come back in two months for a visit ) only a one way to China or a one way to home.
Seeing that a roundtrip to China will cost about a third of what a one way home would cost, they should jump at the chance at saving some cash!!.
Asked them could i get the equivalent in cash for a one way trip home and they said no.
Any ideas? |

What?
If they reimbursed you for your flight to come to Korea then they only have to supply with a one way out of here. Take the one way and pay your own way back here in 2 months. I think you're being a little unreasonable.
Schools that sponsor your visa are responsible for you coming but also for you leaving. Why would they want you to return to Korea if they will not be sponsoring you again? |

What?! The OP is not being unreasonable. He's learned all the BS tricks and reasonings from his handlers in Korea. |

Then he should book the ticket home to Canada, get it refunded and then book the China trip. Simple!
Contractually and Immigration wise there is no reason for the school to want to book him a return flight to China. |

could be very wrong, but if theschool pays the ticket to canada, how can he get the refund? if a credit card was used to pay for the ticket, wouldn't the refund be charged back to the cc? |

If you worked for a decent school they would have paid you the cash equivalent for a ticket to Korea and cash for your ticket home. Many will do that. Gotta shop around for the best deal.
Try to get a refundable ticket home. Good luck negotiating. |

many schools will ask that you book and pay your own airfare out and then present them with the e-ticket and receipt to get reimbursed afterwards.
buy a refundable ticket, give your school a copy of the e-ticket and/or receipt, get reimbursed, get a refund on your ticket from the travel agency. |

But watch out for the school that books a cheaper (and non-refundable ticket) on your behalf. |
